Medicare Fee Schedule Update

On Friday, the Senate passed HR 3962 which delays the scheduled 21% Medicare fee decrease and and allows for a 2.2% Medicare fee increase from June 1, 2010 through November 30, 2010. The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on this bill Tuesday evening.

The Association for the History of Chiropractic held its 29th annual meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, May 22-23, 2010. The winner of this year’s prestigious Lee-Homewood Award was Dr. Kerwin Winkler. This is the highest honor the Association bestows. The criterion is a living person who has made a distinguished career contribution of lasting significance toward the advancement of chiropractic in the scientific and academic communities, and the public acceptance of the profession. The award was presented by Dr. William Holmberg.

(Arlington, Va.) -- The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1017, the ‘‘Chiropractic Care Available to All Veterans Act,’’ tonight, putting America’s veterans one step closer to gaining access to chiropractic care at all major Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers. The bill was approved 365:6.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 219-212 on Sunday, March 21, 2010 in a roll call vote on which every Member present went on record, to approve a health care reform bill passed by the Senate in December. The bill, H.R. 3590 was passed after only two hours of debate, passing with no Republican support. On Tuesday, March 23, 2010, President Obama signed H.R. 3590, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law. Many DCs are wondering how this bill will impact the chiropractic profession. The Summit has examined the bill and reports that DCs can look to the following provisions to advance the cause of the chiropractic profession.
